This bow was created to onto the spring wreath I made for my home.  I hope it is a help to those that might be struggling with how to make a bow for theirs or wants to learn a new design to try.  If you give it a try, I'd love to see a photo of your work!
I might just feature it in one of my posts!

Easter Mantel

Spring is here!  I'm sad Easter comes so early this year, I'd love to keep my Easter mantel up for awhile, but I shall enjoy it while I can!

My favorite thing about this mantel is all the white.  It's crisp and clean, very refreshing just like the season.  I threw in some color with the speckled eggs and the expensive Dollar Tree Easter egg sign.  Otherwise I kept is neutral with the burlap, wood, and white accents.

For a closer look and to see all the details of this mantel, join me below for a video tour of this spring mantel.

Re-Growing Green Onions

Simple way to re-grow your green onions without needing a garden
Re-Grow Green Onions

Green onions

I love to garden!  However it is 20 degrees outside right now in the midwest, and there isn't a whole lot of gardening going on outside around here.  So let's bring the garden INSIDE for this DIY.

I don't use green onion that often, but it's on of those things that I never have on hand when I actually do need it.  You too?  Ok, let's fix that.

Of course you have to purchase bundle of green onions first (usually less then $1), then watch my quick DIY video that will teach you how to regrow your own green onion, inside, over and over again.

Tips for Packing a Toddler for Vacation

Can I just start out by saying what awesome parents I have!  You can totally hate me all you want for bragging on them, but seriously, my kids are so luck to have them as grandparents.
They wanted to make some awesome memories with their grandkids and took them for a weekend away at an indoor waterpark resort.
Now let's go to another place... they took my 8 year old daughter who is a great traveler, patient, kind, understanding, go with the flow.  They also took my not even 2 year old rambunctious, can't sit till, goes 100 mph, temperamental, not understand, needs a nap or look out, lives by a routine son.  God love them.  Talk about brave grandparents.
What did that mean for me and my husband - freedom! HA!  A weekend, in our own home, in our own town, to do as we want and just enjoy each other's company.  Talk about heaven on earth.  And we did just that.
But before we could enjoy the quiet and all that freedom (from the children), I needed to get them both packed.  Do you know how much stuff kids need?  Even for just 2 nights?  Let's just say, A LOT.  I am actually very proud at how well I was able to compact it all down so they had some leg room in the car for the drive.
See the video below to see some of the tips I used when packing my toddler for vacation.

Pickle Jar Aphothecary

Make your own fancy pants display jar!  Fill with seasonal goodies for a versatile piece!
Pedestal Apothecary Jar

It's always a great thing to recycle!  Why do we spend money on empty mason jars when we have jars around the house we could use and upcycle?  Plus, it's FREE!  We all love free.

So check out the different jars around your house, pickle jars, pasta sauce jars, honey jars they are actually pretty neat looking!  Eat/use the insides and SAVE THEM.

If you don't have a pickle jar, of course you can use a mason jar.

This project can be redesigned to fit your homes decor.  I think it would be awesome spray painted white or off white.  Fill your jar with cool things to match the season - jelly beans for spring, colored rice in red/white/blue, etc.

Check out the video below to see how to put the basic design together then share with me below what you've come up with to match your style!

Wooden Vase Shelf

Simple DIY mini shelf that will add that custom look to your décor.
Wooden Vase Shelf

This shelf kind of came as a.... I need something but I'm not sure what... kind of thought.  I was redecorating my bedroom and wanted a small gallery wall.  I added my pieces to the wall and have a nice long narrow area left that needed "something."

A picture?  Art?  Arrow?  Three small things to fill it in?

I decided I wanted to add a vase of flowers to the wall and needed a narrow shelf for them that would perfectly fit into the narrow gallery space.  So I kept it SIMPLE.

Watch my quick DIY tutorial and I'll show you just how simple it is to make your own rustic wall shelf.  I've also got more ideas of how this piece could be used.  Let me know if you try this project in the comments below!

Wood Chevron Sign

How to create a distressed wooden chevron sign for your homes decor
Wood Chevron Sign

As you'll see in the video tutorial below, I fell in love with this look and technique.  I'm sharing with you how I had the song lyrics sign, but I also will show you my first distressed chevron pattern sign that I made for my bathroom.

This is quite a popular style right now.  Everyone using pallets and reclaimed wood.  I simple love the look.  However, if you don't have either of those things on hand, you can head to your hardware store and pick up some brand new wood and make it look distressed and give it a reclaimed wood look.

I adapted a white wash type technique (minus the water part) to create a modern twist on this rustic look.

Remove Hard Water Naturally

It's very simple and easy to remove hard water from your shower with one ingredient:

Our home has ridiculous hard water.  Well our whole town does.  It likes to ruin things more quickly then if we had non-hard water... or is it soft water?  Either way, wish we had it.

I love to clean with as many natural cleaning products as I can and this method uses a lemon, you can't get much more natural then that!  Right!?

Take a peak at the DIY video below and see how easy this technique really is.

Photo Mason Jar

Such a precious way to preserve and display memories
Photo Mason Jar

This is yet another very versatile DIY project and I LOVE those!!!  There is just lots of ways to get creative here.  In the video below I share with you the simple steps involved in creating this look.  I hope that after you've taken a few minutes to watch you'll try this project and share with me what you do with the technique.

I had this photo from a family shoot that I LOVED, but never had used.  I love the way my daughter is interacting with her little brother.  It is simply precious to me.  I didn't like that we are all looking, but you couldn't see her beautiful face.  So it's still a special photo to me and even though I didn't blow it up and add it to my gallery wall, I think this is the perfect way to give it the right attention.

I have included some other ideas of how this project can be adapted to different situations and décor, as well as step by step instructions of how to make this simple DIY project.

Monogramed Shower Curtain

Jazz up your simple shower curtain with a monogram
Monogram Shower Curtain

This shower curtain was originally purchased from Target.  I am all about the simple, clean look more so then a busy patterned shower curtain.  So when I saw this shower curtain I knew it was the direction I wanted to go in with our master bathroom.  My whole plan was to add a monogram to the center of it... eventually.  Then a couple years went by.  No kidding.

This shower curtain then made its way into our guest bathroom.  Time to finally add that monogram that!  See the video tutorial below with instructions on how to create your own and some great tips that will help you along the way.

Shamrock Float - YUM

This is a great treat to go with tonight corned beef and cabbage Irish dinner!
Shamrock Float
Green Sorbet
White Soda
Fun cup
Sprinkles if you so choose

If you love dessert and you love root beer floats, you NEED to try this "DIY."  Even if it's not St. Patrick's Day, this is just a very yummy yummy treat.  We actually make this treat all year and call it a "Grinch Float" at Christmas time.  Any excuse for dessert.

The great thing about this float vs. other floats is the sherbet is a tad bit healthier then the ice cream in traditional floats.  More reason to try it now!

Check out this FUN video that me and my daughter collaborated together to make.  We really had a good silly time creating it together.  Some of the clips might be in a blooper reel at some point, but she's game to jump in on any project that includes sweets.

Shamrock Hair Style

Your little girl's hair will shamROCK with this cute little do
Shamrock Hair Style
Spray bottle of water
Hair rubber bands

I have a long history with hair..

More so with hair bows.  But you can't do a hair bow without the hair.  I'm lucky that my 8 almost 9 year old still lets me do her hair as well as still let's me put a bow in her hair EVERY SINGLE DAY.  We are a "no bow, no go" family.  That's right, she doesn't leave the house without something in her hair.  I just wonder how long she really will let me continue with that "rule."  Sound harsh?  Sound crazy?  No, no, no, she loves it. She doesn't consider it torture... yet.

Well anyway, on to this great hair style tutorial!   It's super easy and turns out super cute.  If you are watching this the day of St. Patrick's Day - you have time to pull this off before school starts!  Go for it!  And don't forget the bow :)

Powder Puff Derby

This was more a DIY for my daughter and her daddy.  They both worked on this project together.  All I was told to do was add some vinyl stickers to the top and sides of the car.  I'm all for taking a back seat on this one.

Alyssa's car is on the far left

This was our first "rodeo."  We honestly had NO IDEA what we were doing.  It was all for the sake of the fun for us.  And for decorating the car, because let's face it, for girls, that's really the neat part.

This was MUCH more involved then we ever thought.  The track was hooked up to a computer that clocked times and showed the order cars reached the finish line.  It was pretty neat!

Although we didn't earn any awards, we had a great time!  We learned a lot, and I think next year we will try it again with a little more effort.

It was great spending mommy/daughter time together.  She got to spend time with friends and I was able to hang out with the other mom's for adult conversation.  Already looking forward to next year!

St. Patrick's Day Mantel

Come along for a tour of my St. Patrick's Day mantel!

Besides my name, Shannon, being Irish, I think that's the only bit of Irish in our family.  However, that doesn't stop us from celebrating this fun holiday.

Last year we actually went to a hockey game on St. Patrick's Day and it was a total blast.  We dressed all up in our jersey's and green beads, bows, headbands, and blinky shamrock pins.  So not a traditional celebration, but we sure weren't going to risk getting pinched at an arena filled with 20,000 fans.  JUST KIDDING.  We did it because it was fun, and because why not!?

Now, back to the mantel display.

I don't think your mantel has to be green, green, green.  It would honestly stick out like a sore thumb in my home.  I have zero green anything in here.  I do however, have a ton of turquoise.  So I thought it best to incorporate that in there and the green and turquoise actually blend ok.  I think I pulled it off with a couple touches of the turquoise.

You can visit some of the other posts from previously on how some of the elements were made here:

Take a glance at the video below and I'll go more into depth about the pieces I used and some tips about how you can pull your mantel together.

St. Patrick's Day Vase Filler

Add some green to your St. Patrick's Day décor without spending a lot of green!
St. Patrick's Day Vase Filler

I've found that there are some odd apothecary fillers out there, this one is probably pretty high on that list.  Who would think to put green split peas on their shelf, in their entry, or on their mantel.  Pretty strange, right?

This is not only an inexpensive way to get COLOR, but it's also CUTE.

I'll be featuring this technique in my St. Patrick's Day mantel on Friday, so stay tuned for that upcoming video!  You can use this tip for other times of the year too, not just St. Patrick's Day!  Take a glance at some tips for using this technique in the video I've included below.
